Every year RIA Novosti publishes an album consisting of most striking, original and informative works by their photo correspondents and photographers. In December of 2011 me and Ekaterina Lupanova were given an opportunity to create our design concept. Though the deadline was very close, it was the December 1, albums should have been printed and given as Christmas presents in the last week of the year, so we had just two weeks for the whole production. But our department usually says that nothing is impossible, so we finished the task working very close together and trying not to miss any detail. We worked on the design together with Ekaterina Lupanova. Ekaterina was busy with the layout. Meanwhile I was selecting photos
and creating pairs which will go in spreads. When the inside part of the album was almost ready I created the cover.
The design of the cover is very typographical, all index information (in two languages) is duplicated on the cover which creates a bit of a mess there. But this mess is strictly organized. The cover is quite unusual for an album but that fact makes it attractive for the reader.
